microbEnergy GmbH has developed the key process BiON® for biological methanation. Microorganisms convert hydrogen and carbon dioxide into methane. The resulting synthetic natural gas is indistinguishable from fossil natural gas and can be fed into the existing gas network.

After testing and optimizing the process in the in-house technical center, microbEnergy brought the process to market maturity. In 2015, the world’s first power-to-gas plant with biological methanation went into operation. In 2019, microbEnergy transfered the technology to industrial scale.

At the conference microbEnergy will present experiences of the 2.5 MW installation in Switzerland.
